Ukees in the Mist

We were Tofino bound this morning for an appointment, and naturally, afterwards, we simply had to stop off at the TacoFino Cantina for lunch! Once sated and suitably rotund from this marvelous culinary experience, we headed back to Ukee, but stopped off at Long Beach for a bit of a walk.

As is often the case here, even when the sky is completely clear and deep blue, with the sun shining, there was a good bank of fog at the shore. We walked toward the surf, which was not visible, but simply followed our ears, and eventually came upon the water, with very minor (or as we say, "Meh") waves.

Today, the upper tidal line was strewn with thousands of the little "By-the-Wind Sailor" jellies, looking for all the world like tiny blue blow-up rafts with white (or rather, transparent) sails set at a jaunty angle that they use as they surf across the surface of the water.

Marcelle, as always, likes to wade, and was but a few metres from me, yet all but lost in the swirling mists as she made her way along the beach with me following on shore, like a faithful old dog.

As we returned back to the car, we walked past a group of gulls, clustered together on the beach, their natty white and grey outfits popping them out against the sand. A couple were out of formation (you know who you are!) but the rest all faced forward, all eyes intent on us as we passed.

As we neared the parking lot, the rocks suddenly materialized out of the fog, framed by the barely-visible trees beyond them. The magic never ends here on the edge.

Photographer's Note: all pix today by iPhone 4S using ProCamera 7 (the absolute best camera app for iOS), then processed in Snapseed, Painteresque and, in some cases, Monokrom.
